According to DCED, 12 Pennsylvania companies represented the commonwealth at the 2015 Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Canada in June. The show is one of the largest energy events bringing together global producers, service companies and suppliers. The event this year had 63,000 attendees and 2,000 exhibiting companies from 95 countries.
The Office of International Business Development organized a Pennsylvania pavilion at GPS for PA companies to exhibit their products and services. Additionally, local economic development partners attended GPS from the CORE PA region of Pennsylvania under the Make It In America Initiative to promote the regions of Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia and Pittsburgh as a destination for international companies to locate their business.
Within the last decade, Pennsylvania went from importing 75 percent of its natural gas to being a net exporter of natural gas for the first time in 100 years. In 2014, Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale yielded a record-breaking 4 trillion cubic feet, which is 16 percent of annual U.S. consumption. Pennsylvania is home to the largest unconventional natural gas field in the world and is sixth in the United States in attracting private investment in clean energy, at $841 million.
